Private-mastermind.com Pushes Ads Through Fake Gifts
Private-mastermind dot com is a misleading website that combines elements of ad-pushing browser hijackers and scam pages.
Landing on Private-mastermind dot com, you will see rows of icons showing wrapped gift boxes, as well as text telling you that you just won an expensive device, most likely an expensive mobile phone. The fake prizes are tied with the name of a popular brand, for example, TikTok, trying to lend some sense of legitimacy to the scam. Of course, the brand whose name is used on the misleading site has nothing to do with it.
The page will bring up the "allow notifications" dialog hoping to coax visitors to click that as well. Clicking "allow" here will give the misleading site permission to spam your browser with ads that are both unsolicited and potentially harmful.
Similar misleading sites will often source their ad content through rogue ad networks. This means that the ads delivered may link to potentially unwanted programs, browser hijackers, questionable content and other misleading pages.
When you run into an unfamiliar website that asks you to click anything on it, it's safe to assume this is a misleading page and you will be better off simply closing your browser tab.
