How to Uninstall Unity

Along with its largest competitor - Unreal Engine 4, the Unity engine is among the most popular and widely used game development engines in the last decade. There have been countless games produced on Unity, both independently developed and with full-blown production teams and budgets, that range from the simplest pixel art retro titles to lavish, rich and sprawling role-playing games and high-octane shooters.

If you need to uninstall the Unity engine from your Windows 10 PC, whether because you need the disk space or for some other reason, do the following:

  1. Open the Unity Hub by launching it from the start menu.
  2. Inside the Unity Hub, navigate to the Installs tab of the window. Find and select the version of Unity you want to uninstall.
  3. Click the three dots button on the side of the install and choose “Uninstall”, then confirm in the popup.
  4. Follow any onscreen prompts you might see.

Once this is done, you will need to uninstall the Unity Hub as well.

  1. Navigate to your Windows 10 settings and click on Apps.
  2. In the list of installed applications, find Unity Hub and click on it.
  3. Click the “Uninstall” button that shows up.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions of the uninstaller to finish the process.

In case you do this while the Unity Hub is still running, you will see a single prompt that allows you to close it at the press of a single button.

This should take care of the complete uninstallation of any specific versions of the Unity engine, as well as the Unity Hub management application that serves as a front end for your different installs.

Of course, once you have uninstalled Unity, you will no longer be able to actively develop and work on any unfinished projects you may have. Their files will remain intact, in whatever state you last left them, but you will need to reinstall the Unity engine to finalize, compile and package products for distribution.
