How to Install Fonts on a Mac
You may be looking at interesting fonts online that you would like to use in a layout, a booklet or a presentation but you're not quite sure how to install them on your Mac computer. This article will give you simple, easy to follow tips on how to both install and validate new fonts on your Mac.
First of all, before you get to use your font in an application, you will need to install it using Font Book. The Font Book app will let you know if there is any issue with the font you just installed or if it's ready to use. Follow these steps to install a new font:
-
Table of Contents
Open Font Book.
-
Click the plus-shaped add button.
-
Navigate to where you keep your font file, then select it and click Open.
Alternatively, you can double-click on any font file you have visible in Finder, then select "Install Font" in the dialog box that comes up.
Once you install a font you want to use, if it does not show up as intended in any document or presentation you are working on, you can validate your font files. To validate fonts, do the following:
-
Open Font Book.
-
Select the font you are having issues with, then click on File > Validate Font.
If you get a green icon, this means the font validated fine. A yellow icon is indication of a warning, and a red icon means the font is not usable and did not verify successfully at all.
If your verification fails, try downloading a new instance of the font you need, using another source.
