How to Fix Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Crashes

Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises in gaming and has been going strong for nearly twenty years now. Black Ops 4 is the sixteenth installment in the series and is available on both consoles and PC.

The game is available on PC only through the Activision Blizzard Battle.net portal.

As with all PC games, compatibility and software and hardware configurations will always present certain issues. If you are experiencing crashing issues with your copy of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 on PC, this article will give you a few suggestions you can try to get rid of the crashing problems.

  1. Scan the game’s files in the Battle.net client

Open your Battle.net client, then select Black Ops 4 in the list of games. Click on "Options", then select "Scan and Repair". This will launch a file verification process that checks your files and compares them against a fresh game install. Any discrepancies will lead to the re-download of the affected files.

This process is very similar to Steam's game file integrity verification and will take care of a lot of crashing issues.

  1. Update your GPU drivers

Go into the respective software application of your GPU's manufacturer and check for available new driver packages. It's recommended that you choose a clean install of the driver. In a lot of cases, outdated or corrupted drivers can cause what may look like random crashes in a lot of games, including Black Ops 4.

A clean driver install removes the existing drivers completely, then installs the most recent version on a fresh slate. This process takes a little more time and often includes an extra reboot, but it is worth taking the extra time to make sure you have no driver conflicts.

  1. Lower graphics settings

In rare cases settings that your hardware struggles with tremendously will cause Black Ops 4 to crash. You should try gradually lowering your graphics settings until you find a sweet spot where the game works and looks the way you want it and doesn't crash.

If you have a GPU with only 4GB of memory, you should not try running the highest quality textures. Screen space reflections and object view distance are also significant resource sinks and you will have a much more stable framerate if you lower them, in case your system is struggling.
