X2convert is the name of a website and platform that offers visitors the option to convert YouTube videos into downloadable sound of video files. However, there are a few considerable issues with using the X2convert service.
First of all, YouTube does not allow users and visitors to download offline copies of content hosted on it. This is against the website's terms of service and is in essence, a crime, especially when it comes to downloading copyrighted content hosted on the YouTube platform.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, X2convert is laden with layers and layers of intrusive advertising. A lot of this advertising comes from untrusted and potentially malicious websites, which could lead to getting further, more dangerous malware on your system.
In our brief test, we saw X2convert behaves pretty reasonably if you have an ad blocker installed. However, without one, the website will spit out a load of ads at the user, including many that are strongly suggestive or downright sexual in nature.
Additionally, there is an invisible overlay on the site's buttons used to download converted YouTube content. Clicking those, the user is forcibly led to third-party websites from advertisers using X2convert. Your browser may also block further pop-ups generated by the website on its own.
Similar behaviors and intrusive ad spam directed at the user, especially through invisible overlays, make websites such as X2convert best avoided. Additionally, some of the advertising served on such websites can lead to further malware infections with both potentially unwanted applications or more dangerous full-on malware.
