What is the Mega Colors Rogue Extension?
Mega Colors is the name of a rogue browser extension that comes with the added ability to inject ads into sites you visit.
Like many recent rogue extensions we have covered, Mega Colors asks for permission to change the content of pages you browse, under the pretext that it will use this level of access to change the background colors of the pages, to make them easier on the eyes.
The permissions the extension asks for are instead used to inject ads in pages you visit or display them as pop-ups. Many recent rogue browser extensions function in the exact same way.
This is problematic because rogue extensions can be working together with rogue ad networks. This means the ads that will be delivered through them may link to questionable content, scams, phishing portals and misleading websites.
Extensions such as Mega Colors are never listed on the official Chrome Web Store, due to their misleading and potentially harmful nature and Mega Colors specifically is no exception.
If you spot Mega Colors in the list of extensions installed in your copy of Chrome, you would do well to remove it immediately to stop any further exposure to potentially dangerous ads.
