What is the Eye Protection Rogue Browser Extension?

Eye Protection is the name of a rogue browser extension that functions similarly to a browser hijacker.

Eye Protection is supposed to let users change the color scheme used by websites, to make longer browsing sessions easier on the eyes by reducing high-contrast color combinations. However, in addition to this, the extension also causes ads and pop-ups to show up in your browser once it is installed.

This behavior is typical for many similar rogue extensions that offer some sort of simplistic and seemingly innocuous functionality, but also trigger a lot of unsolicited ads in your browser once installed.

The biggest issue with this is that similar rogue extensions would often work in conjunction with rogue ad networks and the ads they display may link to unsafe locations, including scam pages and phishing portals, misleading websites, or potentially unwanted program installers similar to the extensions in question.

If you have a similar rogue browser extension installed on your system, you would do well to remove it as soon as possible. Simply navigate to your browser's extensions or addons menu, find the problematic extension and click the "Remove" button to get rid of it. This should bring your browser back to normal.
