What is the GetItDark Rogue Extension?
GetItDark is the name of a rogue browser extension posing as a color scheme changer. In reality, GetItDark exhibits behaviors typical for adware.
The premise of GetItDark is that the extension is able to change the color scheme of pages you browse, swapping it for a darker one that is supposedly easier on the eyes. In addition to that, however, the extension can also display ads, injected into pages you browse, or in the form of pop-ups.
It should be noted that due to its questionable nature, GetItDark is not listed on the Chrome Web Store.
The ads displayed by similar rogue extensions are commonly sourced through rogue ad networks. This means having GetItDark installed in your browser, you will be exposing yourself to rogue ads that may potentially link to scam or phishing pages, other untrustworthy websites, questionable content or potentially unwanted program installers.
Luckily, rogue extensions have very limited persistence mechanisms. Usually going into your Chrome addon menu and manually removing the rogue extension will be enough to stop the additional ads from displaying.
