'Session Validation Error' Scam Hunts for Email Credentials
A recent development in the phishing world is a new email scam called "Session Validation Error."
The scam email states that there was an error found in the recipient's mailbox and when they try to fix it, they are redirected to a fake website that appears to be similar to their email account page. The subject line of the scam email reads "Mailbox Error Notification (recipient's email address)". It will inform the user that 20 incoming messages have been held back due to a session validation error, followed by an instruction to click on the link provided in order to regain access. Once this action is taken, it takes the user to a fraudulent page where they are encouraged to enter their login credentials.
This fake page is designed to steal the user's information and, in turn, can be used by the criminals for various malicious activities. This includes taking control of the user's email account. They can also use this data for identity theft or other types of cyber crimes. It is important to remember that any type of personal information or credentials should never be shared when entering this page.
