Your Invoice Is Ready Email Scam

After examining the email in question, it has become evident that it is a common scam known as phishing. The perpetrators behind this email intend to deceive recipients by falsely claiming that their invoice is ready and directing them to a phishing website with the aim of stealing personal information.

The phishing email masquerades as a legitimate invoice notification from "Demetrius Comes Handyman Services," asserting that an invoice amounting to $1,600 is due for payment. It urges recipients to make immediate payment and expresses appreciation for their business. Attached to the email is a file named "SCAN_5689.shtml" (though its name may vary).

The attached file is a fraudulent HTML document designed to extract personal information. Upon opening the attachment, a fake AT&T sign-in form appears, prompting users to enter their user ID and password. It's important to note that AT&T is a legitimate company and is not involved in this scam. The ultimate aim is to deceive individuals into divulging their login credentials.

Scammers who acquire AT&T credentials can exploit them in various illicit ways. They may try to access the victim's AT&T account to obtain sensitive personal information, such as billing details or contact information, which can then be abused or sold on the dark web.

How Should You Act if You Run into a Scam Email?

If you encounter a scam email, it's important to take prompt and decisive action to protect yourself and your personal information. Here's what you should do:

Do Not Respond: Avoid engaging with the scam email or clicking on any links or attachments contained within it. Responding to the email or interacting with its contents could further compromise your security.

Mark as Spam or Phishing: Use your email provider's built-in tools to mark the email as spam or phishing. This helps alert your email provider to the presence of fraudulent messages and may prevent similar emails from reaching your inbox in the future.

Delete the Email: Delete the scam email from your inbox and any other folders, such as trash or spam. Be sure to empty your trash or permanently delete the email to prevent accidentally opening it again.

Report the Scam: Report the scam email to your email provider, as well as relevant authorities or organizations. Many email providers have mechanisms in place for reporting phishing attempts, and reporting the scam can help protect other users from falling victim to similar schemes.

Use Security Software: Consider using reputable antivirus and antimalware software to help protect your devices from malicious emails and other online threats. Keep your security software up to date with the latest definitions and patches for optimal protection.
