What Does The TabX Rogue Extension Do?
TabX is the name of a browser extension that exhibits browser hijacker behavior, which could classify it as both a browser hijacker and a rogue browser extension.
When the TabX extension is installed in your browser, it will make a number of changes to your browser's settings. The browser's homepage will be swapped out for newtaber dot com. The browser's default search engine and new tab contents will be replaced as well.
This is all done in an effort to promote and push the newtaber search engine. Sadly, like most fake search engines, it cannot produce results on its own. While most fake search engines would link to results pages from Google or Bing, Newtaber redirects to websearches dot xyz - yet another fake search engine.
The main reason rogue extensions do all those things is that they can commonly collect data on the user's browsing habits and search queries once they are installed on the system. This data is commonly resold to third parties such as advertising agencies.
Having any extension on your browser that tampers with your browser settings and pushes dubious search engines is never a good idea.
