How to Remove SwiftSearch Browser Hijacker
SwiftSearch is a browser hijacker, and hence - a potentially unwanted program. Potentially unwanted programs occupy a nebulous space in-between legitimate software and full-blown malware.
SwiftSearch behaves like most other browser hijackers - it changed a number of browser settings without the user's permission. It will change the browser's home page, default search engine and its new tab content. Using SwiftSearch would return search results from legitimate, big search engines, as browser hijackers obviously don't have the infrastructure to supply their own search algorithms.
The fact that the changes to your browser are made without full disclosure and without explicit user consent is what makes SwiftSearch and similar applications browser hijackers.
In addition to this behavior, browser hijackers can also track your browsing activity and log it, so that the data can be re-sold to third parties, usually advertising networks. This sort of behavior is also undesirable.
Most browser hijackers have poor persistence mechanisms and removal is as simple as uninstalling the app or removing the browser extension from the browser's settings page.
