Skynet Ransomware Attacks Are Money-Motivated

The Skynet Ransomware is a file-locking Trojan based on the Chaos Malware family. The Skynet Ransomware's main feature is to encrypt media files, such as documents so that the Skynet Ransomware can make ransom demands. It changes files' names by appending a file extension containing four ransom characters to their names, disables various security features, and destroys backups. However, as long as computer users have an anti-malware tool that can identify and remove the SkynetRansomware they will experience minimal problems. However, infected victims will need an up-to-date backup for any file recovery. Victims of the Skynet Ransomware attacks will have two options: brush out the loss of their files or pay the criminals the asked ransom.

The Skynet Ransomware variant behaves similarly to other versions of the Chaos Ransomware. It enciphers most of the computer user's digital media files, including documents or pictures, with a strong encryption technique, which may be immune to third parties decryptors.

The Skynet Ransomware attack is money-motivated, as any other threat of its kind. The ransom message displayed in a text file named 'SkynetData.txt' emphasizes that trying to use third-party decryption tools will destroy the encrypted files. The attackers do not inform the ransom amount they are asking for. However, they provide an email address for negotiation - 'ransom.data@gmail.com. They also allow victims to send one encrypted file that will be decrypted for free and sent back to its owner, as a way to assure that they can reverse the damage done.

The message on the ransom note reads:

'------------------------ ALL YOUR FILES ARE ENCRYPTED ------------------------
