Remove Scorp Ransomware

ransomware

The VoidCrypt Ransomware continues to be one of 2022's more active pieces of malware. It is on top of leaderboards in terms of infected users alongside the STOP/Djvu family of file-lockers that has been going strong for over two years. One of the latest versions of VoidCrypt to be seen in the wild is the Scorp Ransomware. Unfortunately, just like previous variants, it also uses a flawless file-locking mechanism. Victims of this malware will be unable to get their files back via free decryption options, and they may need to resort to alternative data recovery options.

The Scorp Ransomware is likely to arrive to your device via fake downloads, pirated software/media, game cracks, and other shady content. Sometimes, the Scorp Ransomware criminals might also approach potential victims through mass phishing emails. Be wary of random messages in your mail inbox, asking you to download and review an attachment – it might turn out to be a malicious file. The best way to automate your defenses against the Scorp Ransomware is to invest in an up-to-date antivirus software suite.

Failure to mitigate the Scorp Ransomware attack will result in immediate damage to many important files. Every file that this ransomware encrypts will have its name edited to include the suffix '.[sc0rpio@mailfence.com][<VICTIM ID>].scorp.' In addition to this, victims will find the 'Decrypt-me.txt' ransom note. This file advises them too message sc0rpio@mailfence.com for help, and advises  them to prepare to pay a ransom fee via Bitcoin. Victims of the Scorp Ransomware should not accept this proposal. Instead, they need to use an up-to-date antivirus scanner to wipe out the ransomware's files. Afterwards, it is best to restore from a backup, or explore other popular data recovery options.
