What is the Planty-Search Browser Extension?

Planty-Search is the name of a browser extension that will install a fake search engine inside your browser and make it your browser's default.

The extension's description states that it allows you to "search directly from new tab". Last time we checked, this was default browser behavior without the need for any additional extensions installed. We checked again and, unsurprisingly, it still works without Planty-Search or another useless extension to add that functionality.

The Planty-Search extension will swap your new tab and default search engine to its own, which is a fake search engine that siphons your query through Bing and returns a Bing results page.

There is no useful functionality or purpose to this extension. The only thing you will be doing is feeding your search queries and search history into an unknown third-party engine that may collect this information.

If you find Planty-Search among your Chrome extensions, your best choice is to simply uninstall it.
