The OriginType software for Macs has nothing to do with the Origin gaming platform. In fact, the former is not a legitimate application. If you install it, you will not be able take advantage of any new features, or explore new content. Instead, OriginType will work in the background to take control over your browser configuration. This Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) affects all recent Mac versions, and it could replace your Web browser's default new tab page and search engine with a low-quality site.
What Sites Does OriginType Promote?
Often, these Mac PUPs bring low-quality search engines to your attention. These search services often include extra ads in their results, and it is also not uncommon for them to show sponsored results on top. Needless to say, this means that you will not be able to find relevant search results online.
The installation of OriginType may occur without your approval – via software bundles, fake downloads, deceptive ads, or other misleading content. You should keep such PUPs away from your Mac by being more vigilant and careful while browsing the Web. Of course, you can also strengthen your system's security by using an up-to-date antivirus application at all times.
