Mbtf Ransomware is a New Djvu Clone
Mbtf, a type of ransomware related to the Djvu family, was discovered in early December 2022.
The ransomware encrypts files and adds the extension ".mbtf" to their filenames. It also creates a "_readme.txt" file containing contact and payment information. For example, "1.jpg" would be renamed as "1.jpg.mbtf", and "2.png" would become "2.png.mbtf". To gather sensitive data prior to encryption, threat actors have been known to employ information-stealing malware such as RedLine and Vidar stealer beforehand.
Additionally, Mbtf is highly effective at detecting security solutions installed on the targeted machine. It uses various techniques, like process injection and data tampering, to bypass antivirus software, making it extremely difficult to detect the malicious activity.
