What is Jjyy Ransomware?

A new strain of ransomware has been spotted in the wild. The new ransomware variant is called the Jjyy ransomware and it belongs to the family of Djvu clones.

The ransomware will encrypt most files found on a system, leaving system files intact so that Windows can keep running as usual. The ransomware encrypts most other file types, including documents, databases, archives and media files.

Once a file is encrypted by Jjyy, it receives the extension ".jjyy". This means that a file originally called "picture.jpg" will turn into "picture.jpg.jjyy" once it has been scrambled by the ransomware.

The ransom demand is dropped inside a plain text file that is named "_readme.txt" and follows the pattern and formatting used by all recent Djvu clones. The initial demand is for $490 and that sum is increased twofold if the ransom is not paid within 72 hours.
