Remove Helper_update
Macs use Launch Agents to automate the startup of specific applications. This way, your important messaging client can start automatically whenever you restart your system. However, the same feature is being misused by developers of shady applications like adware, browser hijackers, and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs.) They may use small scripts to set up new Launch Agents, which ensure that the shady app will start automatically. One of these shady Launch Agents is called Helper_update, and it appears that many Mac users are wondering why it showed up on their device.
So far, Helper_update has not been linked to a particular piece of software. However, it is fairly certain that the purpose of Helper_update is to start a low-quality application that was installed without the user's approval. The name of the component was chosen to make it sound legitimate – users might assume that it has something to do with their Mac updates. We assure you that Helper_update is not a valid Mac component, and you should remove it.
Of course, deleting the Launch Agent is not enough, because you will still need to identify and remove the software, which worked in combination with it. Doing this manually might be tricky. This is why we advise you to run a reputable Mac security tool – it will scan your hard drive for any shady apps that need to be removed.
To keep such software away in the future, we suggest using a reputable Mac antivirus tool. Also, avoid downloading files from non-trustworthy sources and sites.
