Remove Gooolag Ransomware

Gooolag is a new file-encryption Trojan whose attacks can leave your files in an encrypted state. Malware researchers have been unable to make a connection between the Gooolag Ransomware and any of the popular file-locker families at the moment. It seems like this project was built from scratch, and its operators are not affiliated with any of the currently active ransomware campaigns. Unfortunately, their malicious application appears to be well-made. It uses a flawless file-locking mechanism, which makes it impossible to reverse the encryption without using the correct decryption key. The key is, however, stored on the servers of the attackers.

Gooolage Ransomware Payload Spread Through Emails, Fake Downloads…

Users may come across Gooolag Ransomware's payload accidentally since the criminals are abusing a long list of strategies to deliver it to potential victims. They may rely on email attachments accompanied by fake messages, pirated content, fake downloads, misleading ads, and other deceptive content. The best way to ensure that your files will stay safe is to use an up-to-date antivirus application at all times.

What happens if Gooolag Ransomware's attack succeeds? It will encrypt a wide range of file formats, focusing on commonly used files – documents, media, archives, etc. It also renames the files it locks with the extension '.crptd.' Last but not least, the Gooolag Ransomware drops the ransom message 'How To Restore Your Files.txt' on the desktop.

Gooolag Ransomware Ransom Note

According to the ransom note, victims will not be able to find and use a free decryption tool. The attackers propose a paid solution, which will cost the victim some money. The ransom fee is not mentioned, but it will not be cheap. The message also says that a large portion of the victim's data was stolen prior to being encrypted – the criminals threaten to publish it online if the victim does not agree to pay. This type of extortion is becoming increasingly popular among ransomware authors. Another file-locker that threatens to leak the victim's files is the AvosLocker Ransomware.

The crooks use the emails gooolag46@protonmial.com and guandong@mailfence.com to get in touch with their victims. We advise you not to trust them since there is no guarantee that they will fulfill their part of the deal if you decide to pay. Instead, the recommended course of action is to run an anti-malware tool to ensure Gooolag Ransomware's removal. After this, experiment with alternative data recovery options.
