EssentialModule is a Mac adware app, also called ad-supported software. EssentialModule is part of the family of AdLoad adware clones - a group of apps that numbers in the hundreds of what is essentially the same ad-supported app.

The application is packaged in the same way as most other AdLoad clones - it has a very basic icon so that it can better blend among the other apps on your Mac.

The only purpose of EssentialModule and other AdLoad variants is to deliver ads to your Mac, inside the browser you use. The problem with this behavior is that a lot of the time the ads delivered by the adware apps are sourced using rogue advertising networks and can refer to pages and files that can be potentially harmful.

Rogue ads may link the user to pages containing questionable content, scams and phishing pages, misleading sites and potentially unwanted application installers.
