Remove DivisionInitiator
DivisionInitiator is an annoying application, which only runs on Macs. So far, we have been unable to identify a Windows variant of the app, so it seems that Mac users are its only target. The good news is that DivisionInitiator is not dangerous. Having it on your system will not put you in danger, nor will it leak your data to malicious actors. It may, however, tamper with your browser settings without your approval. DivisionInitiator works in the background to monitor your browser's configuration and make sure that it uses a specific new tab page and search engine. If you try to undo any of these settings, DivisionInitiator will re-apply the automatically. The goal of the program is to promote 3rd-party search engines by redirecting you to them on a regular basis. These might not work reliably, they may host extra ads and may also trigger redirects to unknown sites.
Users may install DivisionInitiator accidentally when interacting with a fake downloader, installer, or updater. Furthermore, the app may be brought alongside legitimate software bundles. It is advisable to pay attention to installation instructions and to make sure to decline offers to install 3rd-party tools.
While DivisionInitiator is not dangerous, you can clearly see why it can be very annoying. Since undoing the changes manually might not be possible, you will need to first ensure the full removal of this app. Since it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP,) you can do this through security software. Install and run a reputable Mac antivirus scanner, and it will easily remove DivisionInitiator's files and components. Once you do this, you should be able to easily restore your browser settings.
