Beware of the Cyber Shield Rogue Browser Extension
Cyber Shield is the name of a rogue browser extension for Chrome that makes some very strange claims about its features.
Rogue extensions can often function as browser hijackers or ad-supported apps and are classified as potentially unwanted applications.
Cyber Shield claims it will block YouTube ads but not all, just "deceptive advertisers". It's a bit weird to claim that there are deceptive advertisers on YouTube in the first place, but the strange description doesn't stop there.
The Chrome Web Store page for the extension claims the extension checks "everything in seconds" when you visit a page and claims to employ both algorithms and whitelists. All of this is very hard to verify, given there is no home page or publisher website listed for the extension or its developer.
The Chrome Web Store also says the user agrees to the extension's "privacy policy and terms of use". Given the absence of an official page or even a link to said privacy policy or terms of use, it's anyone's guess what exactly the user agrees to.
