Bpsm Ransomware Joins Djvu Clone Family
Bpsm is a new ransomware variant that was discovered in the first week of 2023. The ransomware strain belongs to the family of Djvu ransomware clones.
Bpsm does virtually nothing to set itself apart from its peers. The ransomware behaves like every other Djvu clone - it encrypts most file types, including media files, documents, archives and databases.
Encrypted files receive the ".bpsm" extension appended after their original one, transforming a file originally named "archive.zip" into "archive.zip.bpsm".
Once the encryption process completes, the malware produces its ransom note inside a file called "_readme.txt". The note contains the same templated text found in every other Djvu ransom note and it reads as follows:
