What is 'Ads Blocker' Mobile Malware?
Ads Blocker is the name of a piece of malware that can infect Android devices, including smartphones and tablets.
The application is not distributed through the official Google Play Store, due to its malicious nature. The malware will seek permission to access your device's calendar. Then it will spam your calendar with dozens of events, whose contents will be malicious or misleading.
This includes events that will push either spam or malicious online content, including adult content, scams, phishing pages and other misleading websites.
The application makes itself invisible in your regular app drawer and will only be visible in the Android settings screen that lists all installed applications. Even on that screen, the app will have no name or icon, further suggesting malicious intent on part of the developer.
Ads Blocker may also display ads and cause redirects to dangerous and misleading pages while you use your device's browser. The browser is also infected with an overlay that will hijack searches and feed them through a fake search engine, displaying fake and potentially dangerous results pages.
Given the secretive and malicious nature of the application, if you have symptoms similar to what Ads Blocker would cause, for example, many fake events in your calendar, it's best to use an antivirus application to try and remove the malware from your phone or tablet.
