Lavasky Ransomware Joins Ranks of VoidCrypt Variants

Lavasky is the name of yet another ransomware clone that was spotted in the wild in the summer of 2022. The new variant belongs to the broader VoidCrypt family of ransomware clones.

When it deploys on a targeted system, Lavasky will encrypt the majority of files found on all connected drives. This includes media, document, archive and database file types and extensions.

Once encrypted, affected files receive a new multi-part extension, consisting of the victim's ID code, the contact email of the hackers and the ".lavasky" string. This will make a file originally called "document.txt" turn into "document.txt.(alphanumeric string).(blackpirate@cock.li).lavasky" once it has been encrypted.

The ransomware deposits its ransom note inside a file named "unlock-info.txt". The full note follows the established VoidCrypt template and goes as follows:
