How to Reset Password for Your New Japan Times User Management System

A few days ago, On June 30, 2020, the Japan Times changed its member/subscriber management system to a new one. Despite being more convenient and secure, Japan Times could not transfer user passwords from its previous system to the new system due to security reasons.

Due to this process, the Japan Times has requested that its users set up passwords for the new system.

If you're a Japan Times member and/or subscriber to Japan Times' digital plans, you should follow the instruction below to set up your new password within the new member/subscriber management system. You will have to go through this process before you can log into your JT account after June 30. However, the email associated with your current member account will remain the same, and there will be no need to register your credit card information a second time.

How to set up a password in Japan Times' new system

    1. Navigate to the Japan Times website.
    2. Press the Login button located in your screen's top-right corner on The Japan Times website. If the Login button seems stuck or greyed out try deleting your browser cache and attempt pressing it again.
    3. When the Login pop-up window is displayed, press the "I forgot my password" link.
    4. A window labeled "Reset password" will now appear. Type in your email address and click the Reset button. An email with the reset link will be sent to your email address.
    5. When you get the email, you should press the authentication link in the email sent to your email address. If you do not receive an email from Japan Times, try checking your spam folder.
    6. When the window for resetting your password is displayed, enter your new password and click "Save password" to complete the process. Make sure your password is both long and complex enough that it will be difficult to crack, but not so complicated that you cannot remember it.
