How to Change Your Apple ID and Email Address
Did you get a new email address? Or maybe you no longer have access to your old one for some reason. It doesn't matter. All that matters is that you update your Apple ID because it is crucial for protecting your account. Here's how you can do that quickly and easily.
Updating the email address used by your Apple ID isn't a difficult process under the right conditions. If you use a third-party email address as Apple ID, like gmail.com or outlook.com, you can select another third-party address when changing your Apple ID. However, if your Apple ID is an Apple email address, like icloud.com, you might not be able to change your Apple ID at all.
How to change your Apple ID
- First, navigate to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
- Then click "Edit" in the "Account" page.
- Choose "Change Apple ID" under your Apple ID.
- Enter the email address you want to use as your new Apple ID, and then press "Continue".
You will see a list of the Apple email addresses associated with your Apple ID if it is an icloud.com, me.com, or mac.com address. Choose the address you want to use and press "Continue" if that's the case. If it does not keep reading.
Type the email address you want to use, and then click "Continue."
How to change your Apple ID if it's an Apple email address
If your Apple ID is an Apple email address (if your email end with cloud.com, me.com, or mac.com) Apple says you can select one of your aliases to become your new Apple ID. As I wrote above, if you have an Apple ID that uses an Apple email address, you cannot change it to an address provided by a third party, like Gmail or Outlook. Unfortunately, if you don't have any additional Apple email addresses associated with your Apple ID you will not be able to change your account.
