Ghsd Ransomware

Another week means another batch of Djvu ransomware clones. The newest strain belonging to the Djvu family of ransomware is called simply the Ghsd ransomware, named after the extension it adds to encrypted files.

The Ghsd ransomware will scramble files on the target system, including document, media and archive file types. Once encrypted, files receive a new extension appended in the form of the string ".ghsd". This means that a file previously called "music.mp4" will transform into "music.mp4.ghsd" once it has been encrypted by the malware.

Once encryption finishes, the ransomware drops its ransom note inside a plain text file named "_readme.txt". The ransom demands follow the usual template seen in recent Djvu clones - $490 within the first 72 hours, with that amount doubling past those first 72 hours from encryption.
