Get-shields.com Pushes Ads Through Fake Malware Scare

pop-up alert warning

Get-shields dot com is a domain name associated with a misleading website that uses fake virus and malware notifications and warnings to push ads into visitors' browsers and redirect to further questionable pages.

Get-shields dot com can be encountered in a number of different domain names, with number modifiers in front of the get-shields string. The content of the pages displayed will include a lengthy and scary warning message about the visitor's system and Chrome browser being "severely damaged by X malware". The page also brings up a pop-up box claiming that "your device has been compromised".

This is all smoke and mirrors and is intended to get the user to click on anything on the page in a panic. This is how the bad redirects and the intrusive ads can end up on your system.

The entire page is put together in a very lazy manner, with poor English, and minimum effort to make the whole thing look legitimate.

When you run into similar fake scare pages that try to persuade you that "your Chrome is 62% damaged", simply close the browser tab immediately after they open and go on with your day.
