Dark (VoidCrypt) Ransomware Will Scramble Your Files
Dark (VoidCrypt) is the name of a newly discovered ransomware strain. As the name suggests, Dark belongs to the family of VoidCrypt ransomware variants.
Dark (VoidCrypt) will encrypt the majority of the files found on the victim system, including media, archive, database and document extensions. Once encrypted, files receive a new extension in the form of the victim ID string, the contact email used by Dark's operator and the ".dark" string.
This will turn a file named "document.doc" into "document.doc.(alphanumeric string)(Darksight@tutanota.com).dark". Of course, the victim ID in the extension will vary from system to system as it's unique.
The ransomware deposits its ransom demands inside a plain text file named "unlock-info.txt". The ransom note is placed on the desktop and it goes as follows:
