Beware of the MetaMask Pop-Up Scam
The cryptocurrency and NFT markets continue to grow at rapid rates and, unfortunately, this is turning them into a lucrative target for cybercriminals and con artists. There are plenty of malware families that focus on hijacking cryptocurrency wallets, but they are not the only danger – watch out for online scams as well.
The MetaMask Pop-Up Scam is likely to be shown to users when they visit shady sites related to cryptocurrencies. It informs them that their MetaMask needs to be secure, and prompts them to enter their unique passphrase to do this. We assure you that the MetaMask team will never ask you to confirm/secure your account in such a manner. You should never provide the passphrase or recovery phrase of your cryptocurrency wallet to anyone, regardless of what they say.
If you fall for the MetaMask Pop-Up Scam, you will unknowingly give cybercriminals access to your account. They will probably empty it out, leaving your empty-handed. Once you fall for such a scam, it is impossible to recover your funds. If you notice the MetaMask Pop-Up Scam in your browser, you should leave the website immediately.
