Baro Box Browser Hijacker Promotes Untrusted Sites
Baro Box is the name of a generic browser hijacker that is pushed and promoted using untrustworthy websites that can trigger its installation.
Browser hijackers are a subcategory of potentially unwanted programs. Potentially unwanted programs tread the fine line between legitimate software and full-blown malware. While generally not as harmful or as dangerous as malware, they also perform functions that can be seen as undesirable.
Baro Box, once installed inside your browser, will change several of its default settings without asking for permission. This includes changing the home page and the default search engine of the browser. As the name implies, Baro Box pushes the barosearch dot com.
Barosearch itself is a fake search engine that cannot generate its own results and just feeds your search queries into a regular Google search. The issue here is that like most browser hijackers and untrustworthy search engines, your queries are first intercepted and can be stored, then re-sold to third parties, usually advertising companies.
The combination of those traits and behaviors makes Baro Box something you wouldn't normally want on your system.
