Angry Ransomware is Another VoidCrypt Variant
Angry ransomware is the somewhat comical name of a new ransomware variant. The new strain belongs to the family of clones based on VoidCrypt ransomware code.
The Angry ransomware will encrypt most files found on a targeted system and leave them unreadable. Encrypted file types include media, document, archive and database file types.
Once files get encrypted, they receive a new multi-string extension. It contains the victim's ID code, the email used to contact the ransomware operator, and the ".Angry" string. This will turn a file formerly named "music.mp3" into "music.mp3.(victim ID)(firstname.lastname@example.org).Angry".
The ransomware deposits its ransom demands inside a plain text file named "unlock-info.txt". The full text of the note goes as follows:
