How to Eliminate the Zanubis Mobile Trojan
Zanubis is the name of a newly discovered piece of mobile malware. Zanubis targets Android devices including tablets and mobile phones and users located in Peru.
Zanubis functions as a banking trojan for mobile devices. It abuses the Android OS accessibility services - a layer of functionality for people with different disabilities.
The Zanubis can scrape a number of information bits and pieces about the system it has infected, including OS version, manufacturer and app list found on the device. The malware can also attempt to obtain a level of access that allows it to keep running when the device is put to sleep.
The Zanubis banking trojan uses a popular method for stealing banking credentials. When a user opens a banking application on their device, the malware drapes an overlay on top of the legitimate page, which is used to capture the input of the user.
Obviously, obtaining a victim's login credentials for their banking app can lead to full access to their funds and bank account, and the possibilities for exploitation and abuse are limitless.
Android anti-malware software should be able to intercept the threat before it gets deployed on the victim device. Use of an antimalware resource will suffice to rid a device of the Zanubis threat.
