Rocket App Browser Extension

browser hijacker

After an assessment of the Rocket App application, it has been determined that its primary function is to operate as a browser hijacker, aiming to promote the fraudulent search engine r.bsc.sien.com. This extension modifies the configuration settings of a web browser with the intention of assuming control over it.

Rocket App is a software designed to endorse a counterfeit search engine called r.bsc.sien.com by configuring it as the default search engine, new tab page, and homepage. Consequently, when users perform searches, Rocket App redirects their queries through r.bsc.sien.com.

R.bsc.sien.com employs search results from bing.com (redirecting users to bing.com), a reputable search engine. However, it is important to highlight that counterfeit search engines and browser hijackers have the ability to collect diverse data, including IP addresses, visited webpages, search queries, and more.

This collected data may be shared with or sold to third parties, giving rise to concerns related to privacy and data security. Another troubling aspect of counterfeit search engines is their promotion of potentially unsafe content. They may present search results that include links to malicious websites, phishing schemes, or deceptive advertisements.

The removal of browser hijackers and fake search engines can prove to be a challenging task. They often embed themselves deeply within the browser or system, making manual removal complicated. Additionally, they may leave behind residual files or settings that necessitate thorough cleanup, and users may require specialized software to ensure complete elimination.

How Can Fake Search Engines Alter Your Results?

Fake search engines can alter your search results in several ways to serve their objectives, which may include promoting specific websites, generating revenue through advertisements, or collecting user data for malicious purposes. Here's how they typically manipulate search results:

Keyword Manipulation: Fake search engines may prioritize certain keywords or phrases to ensure that specific websites or content appear prominently in search results. This can lead to biased or irrelevant search results.

Inclusion of Unwanted Websites: These search engines often include websites that are irrelevant or malicious in search results. This can result in users clicking on links to potentially harmful or deceptive websites.

Suppression of Legitimate Results: Legitimate search engines use complex algorithms to rank websites based on relevance and quality. Fake search engines may disregard these algorithms and intentionally suppress genuine and authoritative websites in favor of their own or affiliated sites.

Ad-Heavy Results: Many fake search engines prioritize displaying advertisements over organic search results. Users may find that the majority of the search results are ads, making it difficult to find useful information.

Auto-Redirects: Some fake search engines automatically redirect users to specific websites or pages without their consent. This can be used to drive traffic to particular sites or generate advertising revenue.
