Remove ReachChoice
Ever come across pesky pop-ups asking you to update your browser or Adobe Flash Player out of nowhere? Tech-savvy people may find these offers to be helpful, but you should remember that such browser pop-ups are never to be trusted. Why? Because they are often used to propagate malicious software, or other dubious applications, which may cause unwanted changes to your system. ReachChoice is one of the apps that relies on such deceptive tricks to reach Mac systems. It may be hiding behind a fake 'Adobe Flash Update' prompt or a random offer to download an exciting piece of software.
However, there is nothing exciting or useful about ReachChoice. This app is considered to be a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) by reputable Mac security products, and you will see multiple warnings about it if you try to download it on a Mac that is protected sufficiently. If, however, you do not run antivirus software on your Mac, then ReachChoice's installation may go unnoticed.
Once this app runs in the background, it will gain persistence by configuring a new Launch Agent. This ensures that ReachChoice will start automatically when you restart your Mac. While active, ReachChoice may continuously monitor your browser settings and modify them without your approval. The changes it introduces may vary, but they typically aim to replace your new tab page and search engine, expose you to ads, or trigger random redirects to low-quality sites.
Keeping ReachChoice off your Mac can be done by using a suitable security product – this is strongly recommended since it can also protect you from high-profile Mac malware.
