What is the Movieholic Rogue Extension?
Movieholic is the name of a rogue browser extension that claims it allows users to watch streaming media content and movies online. What it does not tell users is that it also functions as adware and will fill your browser with intrusive and potentially harmful advertising.
Movieholic will ask for permission to access and change the data on all pages you visit. This functionality is used to inject ads into pages or display ads through pop-ups.
The major issue with this behavior, as with most ad-supported software, is that a lot of those ads may be sourced through rogue ad networks. This means that the ads may redirect and link to unsafe locations, including misleading websites, untrustworthy pages, scam or phishing portals, questionable online content or other potentially unwanted program installers.
The extension is currently not available on the Chrome Web Store and with good reason. Similar rogue browser extensions are commonly distributed through untrustworthy pages and bad redirects or cracked and pirated software download portals - all locations that you should always avoid.
You can attempt removing similar rogue extensions through the Extensions menu in your Chrome browser. Most of the time, they will not have any persistence mechanism and removal will be relatively easy.
