MEOW Ransomware is a new Conti Clone Designed to Encrypt Files
MEOW is a type of ransomware belonging to the Conti family of clones that encrypts files and appends the ".MEOW" extension to their filenames.
It leaves a ransom note inside a file named "readme.txt" when it infiltrates a device, which notifies victims that they must contact the attackers through provided e-mail addresses (meowcorp2022@aol.com, meowcorp2022@proton.me, meowcorp@msgsafe.io, and meowcorp@onionmail.org) or two Telegram usernames (@meowcorp2022 and @meowcorp123) if they want to decrypt their data.
An example of how MEOW modifies filenames could be changing "1.jpg" to "1.jpg.MEOW", while "2.png" becomes "2.png.MEOW".
The ransomware encrypts most file types and extensions, including documents, media files and archives.
The full ransom note's text is as follows:
MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!
Your files has been encrypted!
