How to Stop the Hachiman Screenlocker

Fake ransomware is more common than you think. Novice cybercriminals see how profitable ransomware attacks are, but they do not have the necessary skills to develop their own file-locker. This is why they resolve to creating bootleg threats like the Hachiman Screenlocker. The latter pretends to be a file-encryption Trojan, and displays a threatening ransom message on the screen of its victims. Furthermore, it claims to have encrypted their data, and asks for a ransom payment of 0.0107 Bitcoin. Last but not least, Hachiman Screenlocker's creators claim to have stolen the user's data prior to encrypting it, and threaten to leak it online.

The good news is that almost everything that Hachiman Screenlocker says is a bluff. It cannot steal files from infected systems, nor can it encrypt any files. The malware functions as a basic screenlocker, which causes a nuisance by preventing you from accessing your desktop, folders, and applications. While this might seem scary, it is typically a fairly easy to fix situation.

The criminals claim that you should send the Bitcoin to their address, and then message them at hachiman@cock.li for details on how to unlock your device and fix your files. However, their unlock code is available for free - JHA7236-HACHIMAN-37JHAl924-JFHACHI. This means that you can use this code to unlock systems locked by the Hachiman Screenlocker. Keep in mind that after unlocking your device, you should still run a full scan with an antivirus software suite to make sure that the Hachiman Screenlocker and any other malware is removed fully.
