While examining deceptive websites, our team came across the "Google Safe Browser Total Protection" scam. This fraudulent scheme masquerades as a browser security tool from Google, purportedly capable of identifying various threats on users' devices.
It is crucial to emphasize that all the information provided by this scam is entirely fabricated and has no affiliation with Google or any of its products or services. When a user visits a website promoting this scam, they are greeted with a counterfeit system scan that supposedly detects multiple viruses and adware on their device. Subsequently, the scam displays a pop-up message outlining these non-existent issues and the potential risks they pose.
As previously mentioned, every assertion made by "Google Safe Browser Total Protection" is untrue, and this scam has no connection to Google or any of its products or services. It's important to understand that no website has the capability to conduct system scans or identify threats on visitors' devices.
Typically, deceptive content of this nature is used to promote untrustworthy or harmful software under the guise of genuine security tools. For instance, the scam may push counterfeit antivirus programs, adware, browser hijackers, and various potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). In some cases, we've even encountered instances where this type of scheme was employed to distribute trojans, ransomware, and other malicious software.
