Gatz Ransomware is a Djvu Variant Decrypting Files on Infected PCs

During an analysis of new malware samples, our researchers found Gatz, a ransomware belonging to the Djvu family. Its method involves encrypting files and appending the ".gatz" extension to their names, while also creating a "_readme.txt" file with instructions on paying the ransom. It is worth mentioning that Gatz may be distributed with other malware such as RedLine and Vidar. The ransomware modifies file names by renaming "1.jpg" as "1.jpg.gatz", "2.png" as "2.png.gatz", and so on.

The ransom note that Gatz generates urges victims to contact the attackers within 72 hours via email at support@freshmail.top or datarestorehelp@airmail.cc to avoid paying $980 instead of the $490 for the decryption software and key. Victims are informed that the decryption process is not possible without these tools and are offered the opportunity to decrypt one file free of charge.
