What is Fate Ransomware?


Fate ransomware is the name of a new Djvu ransomware variant. The new clone expands the numerous family of Djvu clones that consists of hundreds of members.

Fate will encrypt files on the victim system or network, leaving them scrambled. Encrypted files include media, document, archive, database and executable extensions.

Once encrypted, files get the ".fate" extension appended past their old one. This will turn a file previously called "image.jpg" into "image.jpg.fate".

The ransomware generated its ransom note inside a file called "_readme.txt". The ransom note uses the same filename and text template that is shared by all Djvu clones. The full ransom note asks for $490 in ransom and increases that amount twice if the ransom is not paid within 72 hours of encryption.
