Explus Ransomware Creators Extort Victims for Bitcoin

Explus Ransomware is a new piece of malware that, unfortunately, appears to use a very secure file-locking mechanism. IF the Explus Ransomware manages to get to your system and you do not have sufficient protection, it may be able to encrypt the contents of the majority of your important files. All of these files will be marked with the '.explus' suffix. Also, victims of this attack will discover the 'RECOVERY INFORMATION.txt' on the desktop.

The Explus Ransomware and other malware of this type is often spread through the use of phishing emails. These emails contain a decoy document, which poses as an important file. In reality, however, it contains a malicious script whose execution deploys the Explus Ransomware. Of course, email spam is not the only infection vector that Explus Ransomware's creators use – they might also mask the dangerous file as a game crack, software activator, or another shady file.

The Explus Ransomware's message advises the victim to contact explus@tutanota.com for assistance when it comes to recovering their data. The criminals promise to unlock a few files for free, but they do remind victims that a payment will be needed for the full decryption service. Although it might seem like a good idea to pay if you want to recover important data, we assure you that this is not a good solution. It would be too easy for Explus Ransomware's creators to scam you out of your money and leave you with nothing.

If you are a victim of a ransomware attack, you should run an antivirus scanner to dispose of the threat. Then, explore alternative data recovery tools. Keep in mind that the only guaranteed way to undo the damage is to restore the files from a backup.
