eBook Search Rogue Browser Extension Will Swap Your Search Engine
Our researchers uncovered the eBook Search browser extension while studying deceptive websites. This software is presented as a helpful tool for accessing ebooks, but our investigation of it revealed that it is actually a browser hijacker which advertises the fake sear.ebooksearchnow.com search engine.
By installing this browser hijacker, it will assign the fake search engine as the default homepage and new tab/ window URL, and any search queries typed into the address bar will be redirected to sear.ebooksearchnow.com (which then redirects to a legitimate search engine such as Yahoo).
Additionally, it uses certain techniques to make sure it remains on the browser, and can track data like URLs visited, pages viewed, usernames/passwords and personally identifiable details which may then be shared with or sold to third-parties.
Why Should You Never Rely on Fake Search Engines Like Sear.ebooksearchnow.com?
Fake search engines, such as Sear.ebooksearchnow.com, should never be relied upon for accurate information. They are often created with malicious intent and can lead to serious issues if used without proper caution.
Fake search engines are often designed to inject malicious code into your browser or computer that can steal your personal information, including passwords and bank account numbers.
Additionally, these sites have the potential to redirect users to malicious websites that can infect their computers with malware or other malicious software.
Finally, fake search engines rarely provide accurate and up-to-date information and are not likely to return the most relevant results for your searches. It is best to avoid these types of sites altogether and instead rely on reputable search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo!, or DuckDuckGo.
