D0n Ransomware is Another Dharma Variant
D0n is the name of a newly discovered ransomware variant. The new strain is part of the numerous family of Dharma ransomware clones.
The ransomware was discovered by security researchers doing a routine sweep of threat repositories. D0n encrypts files and changes their extensions, appending a long complex new extension to each encrypted file.
The new extension includes the victim's ID string, the email used by the ransomware operator and the "d0n" string. An encrypted file that was originally called "document.doc" will turn into "document.doc.id-STRING.[dong@techmail.info].d0n".
Once encryption completes, the D0n ransomware delivers its ransom note inside a file named "info.txt" and displays a pop-up window with a longer version of the note. The more complete version of the ransom demands shown in the pop-up reads as follows:
All your files have been encrypted!
