How to Uninstall Matlab

When most people hear the name "Matlab", they just think of complex computer software and engineering, but are not too sure what it is about. Matlab describes itself as a " programming language and numeric computing environment" that is available on a variety of OS platforms.

The Matlab software has its roots going back an incredible 50 years, to the very early days of computing. Over time, it has been updated, refined and expanded into the powerhouse it is known as today.

If you need to uninstall Matlab from your computer, this article will give you simple and brief directions how to do it, depending on your OS.

If you are uninstalling Matlab from a Windows 10 PC, do the following:

  1. Make sure Matlab is closed.
  2. Navigate to your Matlab install folder. In most cases, this will be C:\Program Files\MATLAB\[release number]\uninstall\bin\win64. Once you are in the folder, double click “uninstall.exe” to start the uninstaller.
  3. In the dialog box that shows up, select the specific product you want to uninstall. Selecting Matlab will remove all associated files.
  4. Select whether you want to delete any archive files or not, when prompted.
  5. To complete the uninstall process, click “Yes”.

If you are uninstalling Matlab from a Mac computer, do the following:

  1. Make sure you have the administrator credentials for the system, as they may be required.
  2. Make sure Matlab is closed.
  3. Open your Applications folder and find Matlab in it. The Matlab folder should be named similar to MATLAB_[version number].app.
  4. Drag and drop the Matlab folder from Applications into your Trash.
  5. Empty Trash to complete the uninstall process.

This will complete the process on the two most commonly used platforms to run Matlab.
