How to Recover Your TikTok Account If It Was Hacked

TikTok is a growing social media service with over 1.4 billion users worldwide in 2023. The USA is leading the charge with 150 million active TikTok users, who remain unfortunate targets for hackers and cyber crooks. With such a large user base and one that's constantly growing, attention from hackers is inevitable. Moreover, with the attractive nature of TikTok with having such a large number of influencers, over 10 million just in the United States, the platform is a large target for hackers who seek to leverage vulnerable users. Even well-known brands, over 55% of them prefer TikTok's platform, are viable targets for hackers who may steal login information.

If you're unfortunate enough to become the victim of a stolen TikTok account, don't worry, there are things you can do about it. Here are the top 5 steps to recover your account and keep it safe.

Don’t waste time.

If you believe you have become the victim of a hacker attack don't hesitate to act. The longer you wait, the more likely it is that the hacker will be able to steal your TikTok account.

Set up a new password.

If you can still access your account then you must immediately update your password to lock the hacker out of your account (since they likely already know your password).

  1. Log into your TikTok app and tap the "Me" button in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  2. Press the three-dotted line on the top-right and select "Manage my account".
  3. Choose "Password" to change your password. Enter any additional information required to verify your identity.

How to recover a stolen TikTok account

If you weren't able to change your account password before the hacker did you"ll have to go through TikTok"s account recovery process.

  1. Navigate to the TikTok login page and click "Forgot password?"
  2. Select either "phone" or "email" depending on which information you have added to your account.
  3. Type in the required data on the next screen to receive a code via email or text message.
  4. When you get the code, enter it onto the final screen, and you"ll be able to set up a new password.

Ensure your contact info is correct and up to date.

Because your email or phone number is necessary to receive the verification for account recovery we talked about above, you must ensure that all of your contact details are correct, otherwise, you won't be able to receive the code required to change your password and recover your TikTok account.

If you want to check your details go to the "Manage my account" page. You'll find your email and phone number there.

Don’t log in to your TikTok account from other services and platforms

If you use TikTok via other platforms like Facebook or Google, you should probably log out. Then, log back into your account using your TikTok user credentials. Why? Because it's less likely your account will be hacked into.
