Hhyu Ransomware Expands Djvu Family of Clones
There is yet another new arrival to the ever-growing family of ransomware clones based on Djvu ransomware code. The latest variant is called the Hhyu ransomware, named after the file extension used for encrypted files.
Once deployed on a victim system, Hhyu will encrypt the majority of files found on it. The encryption will affect document, archive, database and media file types. Once encrypted, the files receive the ".hhyu" extension appended after their original one.
This means that if a file was previously called "photo.jpg", it will turn into "photo.jpg.hhyu" once it has been encrypted.
When the encryption process finishes, the ransomware drops its ransom demand note inside a plain text file called "_readme.txt". The ransom note follows the formatting, ransom amount and pattern used by all recent Djvu clones.
