'Funding Commitments To Fight COVID-19' Scam
There is yet another scam making the rounds online, but this time the bait is particularly weak and smells fishy from a mile away, even more so than usual.
The latest scam is dubbed the "Funding Commitments To Fight COVID-19" scam and abuses the name of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A malicious spam email is used to spread the scam, claiming that it originates from the said organization. Naturally, the scam email has nothing to do with the legitimate entity - The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The scam states that the foundation has raised an awful lot of money to "fight COVID-19" and claims that the victim has been singled out to receive the sum of $1.5 million, for reasons unknown, using what the email calls the "Global Random Integrated System".
Of course, this is a scam and a fairly obvious one at that. The victim is expected to contact the scammers at the address "claims.your at cheapnet.it". The scam authors must have been delusional if they somehow imagined this could pass for a legitimate email address used by an influential NGO.
As always, use common sense when you see similar fake emails promising you fabulous sums of money or expensive rewards and take care of your online privacy.
